Getting Started with Interactive Videoconferencing

Interactive videoconferencing (IVC) field trips include live, two-way video interactions with content providers that utilize Internet technology to extend your resources and provide students with unique educational experiences.

Teachers need two-way video equipment (provided by your school district), a television monitor or LCD projector, and a network connection to access content providers virtually. There are thousands of content providers around the world, ranging from historical museums to zoos, to NASA and the Smithsonian Museum, to hospital surgery suites. Some virtual field trip programs are provided free of charge, and others have a cost per session.

This rich communications technology also offers possibilities for connections with experts or guest speakers and multi-classroom projects.

Participants in this workshop will:

  • Learn what technology is needed for interactive videoconferencing
  • Use videoconferencing equipment to make a connection
  • Join an interactive demonstration
  • Learn how to find appropriate educational content
  • Discuss strategies for integrating IVC content into the curriculum
  • Have time to search for a program for your classroom

Program length: 3-4 hours or longer
